Overview
In this instance, we have the unique opportunity to offer a singing grant, for up to ten public high school singers in Saratoga County, the opportunity to sing with us in our May 13, 2023 concert. Up to a total of ten singers from Saratoga County high schools will have their fees and music costs covered by a grant from Saratoga Arts (grant application currently under consideration). Singing Grant FAQ and Terms
Who is eligible?
Up to a total of ten singers from Saratoga County high schools will have their fees and music costs covered by a grant from Saratoga Arts (grant application currently under consideration).
How do I apply for the singing grant application?
You may ask your public school music teacher to nominate you. Interest responses are due by February 13 to info@saratogavoices.org or call 518.416.4060 – questions cheerfully answered.
What and where will we be singing?
In a concert of French masterworks, the Duruflé Requiem and the Poulenc Gloria, both sung in Latin, and the Cantique de Jean Racine and Pavane by Gabriel Fauré, both sung in French. The concert will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs on Saturday May 13. As needed, assistance will be provided for pronunciation of French and Latin texts.
This is an opportunity to sing repertoire seldom covered at the high school level, with a 60-voice experienced and acclaimed chorus under Guest Conductor Dr. Michael Lister.
When and where are rehearsals?
Saratoga Voices meets on Tuesday nights from 7-9 p.m. with some flexibility for school vacations, usually at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School chorus room (BHBL). Rehearsals begin February 14, skip February 21, and resume weekly February 28, 2023. There will be an evening dress rehearsal on Friday, May 12 (time TBD).
What does the grant include?
Membership registration fee and music costs are covered. An additional part of the grant includes each participating student will receive two free tickets for family members. Additional tickets may be purchased at regular rates.
Is there any follow-up?
Participating students will be given a follow-up telephone interview and their school music teachers will receive a brief online survey. Guest conductor Dr. Lister and the section mentors will be asked for their assessment of the students’ participation. Results will guide the organization in pursuing similar youth involvement in the future.
